Greetings and welcome to the middle school page! I am delighted to be serving middle level counselors and the PSCA in this capacity. I look forward to hearing from you and to working collaboratively with you through these next months. Even with the dramatic economic environment in which we are all currently living, the excitement of a new year always brings great promise. Hope is eternal when the faces of the children are our landscape. As advocates for young people we stand firm in our convictions to overcome the obstacles – real or contrived – that promise to make our paths difficult because we know what difference we can make for kids.

The middle level counselor is in the most unique position of all the school counselors.  For most, it is the shortest amount of time we have to work with a population of students in typically the greatest amount of angst. Needless to say, this task is not for the faint of heart! Therefore we must be focused, goal oriented, and passionate about our work.  Over the years, I have found my most effective programming to be guided by the framework of our national model. It has helped me to find that focus, utilize data, and locate the “sweet spot” with my colleagues to collaborate on common goals in all three domains. This year I strongly encourage you to rely on the model; utilize the PA Companion Guide (find the link on our main page) and begin – if you haven’t already – to build a model developmental program.
