The Pennsylvania Companion Guide to the ASCA National Model addresses the unique offerings and requirements of school counseling programs in the Commonwealth.  The PA Companion Guide is designed to assist counselors in providing for the academic, career, and personal/social needs of all students.  It will also help answer questions about the relevance of a school counseling program to the academic mission of the school.  The Guide contains numerous tools to guide the development, implementation and evaluation of an effective school counseling program.
Tools for Developing the K-12 Counseling Plan
These tools were developed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education for use by all school districts in Pennsylvania.  A committee of school counselors met and developed these tools as a companion guide for practical implementation of a comprehensive K-12 school counseling/guidance plan.  This document provides school district counselors with a step-by-step process, a framework, resources and best practice models for developing their district plan.  In Pennsylvania, school counselors are integral in the academic, career, and personal/social development of all PreK-12 students.
Guidance Plan Sample Outline PA Chapter 339.31  Pennsylvania School Counseling Departments can use the above outline to help develop the Guidance Plan Document required in PA Chapter 339.31.  This outline is provided as a guide.  The plan is unique to the school district.  Components of the plan should reflect the Comprehensive Guidance Plan delivered in the district.  The committee developing the plan may choose to add items or delete items from the above outline.

SOAR Programs of Study  SOAR is built on programs of study which incorporate secondary education and postsecondary education elements and include coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant career and technical content.  These career and technical programs of study includes a statewide articulation agreement partnership between secondary schools and postsecondary institutions.
College Navigator  College Navigator is a free consumer information tool designed to help students, parents, high school counselors, and others get information about 7,000 post secondary institutions in the US and other jurisdictions.  It is designed to help guide high school students and their parents through the entire college process and o assist families in finding the college that is the right fit for both the student and the family.  The "right" college for the student is one that provides the challenge and opportunities within the selected field of study as well as meets many of their personal criteria.  The "right" college for the family is one that fits within the family's financial parameters, not depleting all their financial resources and retirement savings.
