National School Counseling Week 2008
Dates : February 4-8, 2008
National Theme: School Counselors:
Creating Pathways to Success
National School Counseling Week
highlights the tremendous impact that school counselors can
have in helping students achieve school and personal
success. There are over 13,000 school counselors
nationwide and over 4000 in Pennsylvania who contribute to
the well being of all students everyday.
National School Counseling Week is the perfect opportunity
to showcase those efforts, programs and the professionals
who implement them. We as an organization, and as individual
professionals welcome the opporutnity to share our
accountability, and clarify our vision to provide for the
optimum development of all students in the personal/social,
career and academic realms of the students we all serve.
Please plan to educate, advocate and showcase the counseling
programs in your schools during this "our"
week of the school year! If you need suggestions or
materials, please feel free to contact myself, your
Intermediate Unit Representative and/ or ASCA at www.schoolcounselor.org.
Advocacy
and Awareness Goals
In each
district :
1- Provide at least 4 informational
programs to your school or community during the school year.
These can be to teachers, parents, school boards, community
groups. Remember that providing education and information
provides awareness of you, your program and the benefits that
both offer.
2- Identify and address at least one
issue of concern to one of the groups you serve.
Is there an issue that one or more
groups has been concerned about, requested additional services
for? Work with them in identifying and focusing on that issue.
Set up some goals and a means of evaluating the progress.
3- Make plans for National School
Counseling Week in your school, your district, your community.
Using both the National State themes,
create some celebration ideas that will rejuvenate yourself,
your program AND create education and awareness amongst those
you serve.
