PSCA CALLS FOR NOMINATIONS FOR 2017-2018 RECOGNITIONS

Pennsylvania School Counselors Association 2017-18 Professional Recognitions

The PSCA Recognition Committee is seeking nominations for the following 2017-18 Recognitions: PSCA School Counselor of the Year (PSCA SCOY), PSCA Counselor Educator of the Year, PSCA Legislator of the Year, PSCA Advocate of the Year, and Administrator Appreciation. We all know extraordinary practicing school counselors and individuals who support and advocate for school counselors and school counseling programs. Consider nominating one or more for recognition by the Pennsylvania School Counselors Association.

 

PSCA SCOY

Our Commonwealth is “rich” with outstanding school counselors. The PSCA SCHOOL COUNSELOR OF THE YEAR (SCOY) AWARDS honor professional school counselors who have made significant contributions to their students and/or school districts through the development and implementation of comprehensive school counseling programs that are based on the ASCA National Model.

Nominees must be state certificated, practicing professionals, employed full-time within Pennsylvania, and must be members of PSCA. Nominees must have been practicing school counselors for at least three years and highlights of the nomination must have occurred within the past five years of practice. The SCOY awards program is under the direction of the Professional Recognition Committee and all decisions regarding these awards rests with that group. The awards are presented at the annual PSCA Conference. If the winner is an ASCA member, he/she may be further nominated for a similar award at the national level.

In the two-part process for the SCOY Awards, SCOY nominations must be submitted by Saturday, September 30, 2017.

 

SCOY Nominees must complete and submit the application by Saturday, October 14, 2017.

Recognitions will be made at the elementary, middle and high school levels.

Nominate early; the application is lengthy and detailed.

The COUNSELOR EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR AWARD recognizes those individuals who have dedicated themselves to instructing, training, and mentoring students preparing to become school counselors. The award recognizes their efforts and rewards them for the commitment that they have demonstrated for preparing students to help others in the profession of School Counseling. The selection and presentation of this award is under the direction of the Professional Recognition Committee and all decisions regarding the award rest with that group. Public presentation of the award is made at the annual PSCA Conference. The LEGISLATOR OF THE YEAR AWARD recognizes Pennsylvania officials of state and national government who demonstrate belief in and support of school counseling and guidance activities within our schools by initiating or working to pass legislation which Impacts positive programming. The selection and presentation of the award is under the direction of the Government Relations Committee and all decisions regarding this award rest with that group. The ADVOCATE OF THE YEAR AWARD recognizes outstanding efforts of non-school counseling individuals and/or organizations which have demonstrated exceptional support of and belief in school counseling programs and services. The purpose of the award is to recognize individuals or organizations whose advocacy for school counseling has positively impacted school counselors and their programs on a local, state, or national level. The selection and presentation award is under the direction of the Professional Recognition Committee and all decisions regarding the award rest with that group. The ADMINISTRATOR APPRECIATION AWARD (Established in 2014!) acknowledges those administrators (superintendents, assistant superintendents, principals, and assistant principals) who demonstrate understanding and support of, commitment to and belief in the role of school counselors and comprehensive, developmental school counseling programs. The selection and presentation of this award is under the direction of the Professional Recognition Committee and all decisions regarding this award rest with that group. PSCA Grants and Scholarships

The BILL LEE LEADERSHIP GRANT offers first time conference attendees the opportunity to attend the conference at no registration cost. Each year PSCA awards up to five regional grants to school counselors for the specific purpose of attending the annual conference. The grant covers the conference saver package only. Only one grant will be awarded to each of the Regions. The grant recipients are introduced at the recognition banquet at the annual conference. The selection and presentation of these grants are under the direction of the Professional Recognition Committee and all decisions regarding these grants rest with that group. The PSCA SCHOOL COUNSELOR EDUCATION GRADUATE STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP provides financial assistance to graduate students in an approved School Counselor Education program at a college or university in Pennsylvania. The scholarship is open to Pennsylvania residents who plan to enter or who are already enrolled in a graduate program designed to lead to certification as a school counselor. Up to $2,000 in scholarship aid may be awarded to one or more candidates. The Scholarship grants are given annually; presentations are made at the annual conference. The selection and presentation of these grants are under the direction of the Professional Recognition Committee and all decisions regarding the grants rest with that group.
