President's Messages

10/6/07

GREETINGS FROM THE 2007-08 PSCA PRESIDENT
Justina D. Pedante, Ed.D. (but please call me "Jaye")

I am delighted to serve as President of the Pennsylvania School Counselors Association. I look forward to a good year for school counselors in the Commonwealth. Our many initiatives with PDE , ASCA, Project 720 and the Transforming School Counseling collaboration, the PA Model for School Counseling Programs - just to name a few - put PSCA in the forefront, not just in advocating for, but in demonstrating as well, the integral role school counselors play in the academic success of the students of Pennsylvania.

PSCA now has over 1700 members of the almost 4000 school counselors in the Commonwealth. By national association standards, that is a strong percentage of possible members. But we would like to see many more of you - all of you, in fact - on our membership roles. We want everyone to be able to take advantage of all that membership has to offer:
· The PA Counselor, published six times a year, to keep you up-to-date with association news and events
· "What Works in School Counseling", our annual research based publication designed to inform you of current proven best practices in the field
· The "Members Only" link on the website, putting you in touch with information and resources to help you improve your practice and effectiveness in service to students and families
· The professional development opportunities offered in each IU and region, planned and executed by your PSCA Governing Board Representatives
· Listserve membership to help you network with colleagues across the state and nation with the click of your mouse
· PSCA partnerships and alliances that help you access other professional development opportunities for your own personal growth, as well as resources for students
…and this list just keeps on growing. If you are already a member, thank you so much, and please remember to renew when you get that friendly email reminder. If you are not yet a member, please consider joining us. Just click on the membership link. You will be in very good company!

And one last thing - mark your calendar for the 2008 PSCA Annual Conference, April 16 - 19, 2008 at the Lancaster Host Resort and Conference Center. This year's theme is "School Counselors: Helping Students Catch Their Dreams" - I think that pretty much sums up what we do, every day, in every school, in every district, with all that it implies. An awesome responsibility? You bet it is! We help students change their lives, believe anything is possible with hard work and dedication, realize that education is the key to success, and turn dreams into reality. I am proud to be a member of this amazing profession and this association, and I look forward to working with you during this next year. Please let me know how PSCA can better meet your needs.
